AMALGAM was asked to rethink the entry, living and bedroom areas of an apartment in a former factory building. The project centered around exposing and featuring the structural elements and installing complementary functional elements.

The Approach

Once the wood structure of the main beam and the brick were uncovered the rest fell into place. Rich woods and plush fabrics were employed for the built-ins and furniture pieces to complement the rough structure. A media center, wet bar and coat closet were integrated into the vestibule and living area, while book shelves, side table sliders and reading lights were integrated into the headboard.

The Material

The custom dining table is real poured concrete with steel braces and wood base. The swivel chairs are upholstered with a silk-velvet. The cabinetry is American black walnut. The wet bar counter is a gray stone with a clear acrylic riser.
