The Project

AMALGAM was asked to develop a plan for an office campus on unused land which many years before had been a fruit orchard. The goal was to provide comfortable modern office that integrated with the site and surrounding environment by employing geothermal HVAC, panoramic windows and covered outdoor areas.

The Approach

In order to provide office space flooded with natural light and provide views of surrounding trees the building was broken up into two narrow bars with panoramic windows. The bars were shifted to fit the site, increase street frontage and embrace public areas on each side. A geothermal heating and cooling system was engineered for the building by one of the Northwest's most forward thinking mechanical engineers. The site plan was developed to provide all the parking needed by the office campus while keeping as much greenery as possible.

The Material

The combination of rough and smooth textures were employed to elevate the simple shapes of the bars. Smooth glass and stainless steel panel was sandwiched by a rough corrugated concrete panel which was finished with a ceramic glaze to provide a lifetime low maintenance finish. Inside dark polished concrete floors ground the public spaces and a green wall grows up in a double height lobby space.
